Job summary

Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) invites applications for a Laboratory Technician in Charleston, SC. You will support high quality clinical testing, prepare specimens, perform routine tests, and participate in quality control and maintenance tasks.

You will also troubleshoot instruments, communicate technical results to medical staff and patients, and assist with training and continuing education as part of a dynamic laboratory team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
• Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Perform quality control and maintenance procedures.
• Recognize computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
• Communicate technical information to medical staff and lay persons.
• Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures and continuing education.
