Job summary

Ferrara in Fairfield, CA is seeking a Packaging Operator for 2nd shift. Core hours are 2:30PM to 11:00PM, Monday through Friday with potential weekend work based on business needs.

The role involves tending confectionery printing equipment and performing related packaging tasks to ensure production targets are met. Responsibilities include adjusting equipment for print quality, handling ink fountains, completing required paperwork, and assisting with maintenance and packing activities.

Responsibilities

• Tend confectionery printing equipment and adjust to maintain print quality.
• Fill and clean ink fountains; ensure proper ink consistency.
• Make independent adjustments for efficient equipment operation.
• Inspect production to ensure equipment specifications are met.
• Take direction from the Packaging Machine Operator.
• Complete paperwork: volumes, lot codes, checklists, weight logs, transfers.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Pack, palletize, gather, mix, and feed product to packaging equipment.
• Other duties as assigned in the packaging department.

Tends packaging equipment including confectionery printing equipment.

Ways you will make a difference

• The continuous tending of confectionery printing equipment including the ability to independently make adjustments to maintain high print quality.
• Performing the filling and cleaning of ink fountains. Insuring proper ink consistency through thinning with proper solvents.
• Performs independent adjustments and corrections to the piece of equipment to which the tender is assigned, ensuring efficient operation of that particular piece of equipment.
• Inspects all production to ensure compliance with specifications for that particular piece of equipment.
• Takes direction from the Packaging Machine Operator assigned to that particular piece of equipment.
• Completes all paperwork which is required, including but not limited to volumes consumed and corresponding lot codes, as well as checklists, weight log sheets, and warehouse transfers.
• Perform cursory preventative maintenance duties on the piece of equipment to which they are assigned. This may involve the use of written manuals, in English. May be assigned to calculate, compile, and report production volumes as directed by the Packaging Supervisor.
• Performs all duties assigned within the packaging department including the packing of cases or caddies, palletizing of cases, gathering, mixing, and feeding of product to the packaging equipment, inspection of product, and assembly of cartons or cases.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Skills that will make you successful

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational equivalency acceptable.

Experiences that will support your success

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Compensation

$30.71 per hour plus a $1.00 per hour shift differential.
