Job summary

Stafford County is hiring a Landfill Maintenance Worker I to perform semi-skilled care and upkeep of facilities and equipment at the Regional Landfill. The role is entry-level, with starting pay from $16.81/hour and a full range up to $29.42/hour based on experience.

The position requires basic skills, the ability to work under supervision, and a commitment to safety as you assist with operations, maintenance, and customer assistance within the landfill service area.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of landfill operation and recycling processes.
• Knowledge of maintenance, custodial, and manual tasks.
• Knowledge of Stafford County and City of Fredericksburg roadways and litter patterns.
• Awareness of safety hazards and procedures in the work area.
• Ability to identify infectious and hazardous waste and follow proper handling procedures.
• Ability to operate machinery and lawn care equipment safely.
• Ability to operate vehicles with standard transmission.
• Ability to organize and perform related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation and maintenance of landfill and equipment.
• Operate trucks, loading containers and other landfill machinery.
• Perform custodial and building/grounds maintenance tasks.
• Unlock security gates and manage access.
• Direct traffic and verify authorization to dump.
• Advise citizens on landfill and recycling procedures.
• Follow safety programs and guidelines.
• Perform related tasks as required.
