Job summary

FRANKLIN COUNTY is seeking a Probation Officer I to investigate, advise, and counsel individuals on probation or parole to promote their personal and social adjustment within the community. The role involves supervising offenders, preparing investigative reports, and coordinating with agencies to develop effective rehabilitation plans.

Training and supervision requirements apply during a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement or related field.
• 1 year of human services related experience preferred.
• Must complete 40 hours of in-service training per year including training essential to the current use of force policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervises probationers and parolees, investigating activities and providing counseling for adjustment.
• Conducts social case histories, intake interviews and pre-sentence investigations.
• Prepares reports on investigations and recommends rehabilitative action to court.
• Maintains contact with families, employers, and others to aid client adjustment.
• Collects urine samples and conducts drug tests.
• Enforces court orders and may arrest or assist in arrests as needed.
• Documents violations and testifies in court as required.
• Conducts home and field visits and develops treatment plans for offenders.
