Job summary

Dallas County Votes seeks an entry-level Juvenile Detention Officer to provide direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility. The role emphasizes health, safety, and welfare in accordance with departmental policies and TJJD standards.

You will conduct direct supervision, counselling, crisis decisions in absence of supervisor, and discipline according to rules. Training, background check, and drug testing are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Must have high school graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Must pass extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
• Provide individual and group counseling to promote personal responsibility and alternatives.
• Make and document decisions during crises or potentially dangerous situations in the absence of a supervisor.
• Discipline youths by enforcing facility rules and recording behavior.
• Serve as back-up to staff; assist with medications, transports, intake assessments, or discharges.
• Physically restrain/youths as required by TJJD guidelines and participate in May involve room checks and searches.
• Coordinate daily educational and entertaining programs and activities for youths.
