Job summary

Dallas County is seeking an entry-level Juvenile Detention Officer to provide direct supervision of youths in a 24-hour detention facility. The role focuses on health, safety, and welfare in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

You will conduct inspections, transport youths as needed, coordinate educational activities, enforce facility rules, and support staff. Requires a high school diploma and ability to obtain First Aid/CPR within 90 days; valid Texas driver's license; and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days.
• Texas driver’s license with good driving record.
• Successful background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility.
• Discipline youths by enforcing the rules and document behavior.
• Conduct inspections, rounds and drills as assigned.
• Transports youths to appointments and coordinates daily programs.
• Back-up to staff; assist with intake, discharges, and other duties.
• Handle crisis situations and document actions taken.
