Job summary

Dallas County is seeking an entry-level Juvenile Detention Officer to supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility, ensuring health, safety, and welfare in accordance with departmental policies. The role includes counseling, discipline, and maintaining thorough documentation.

Responsibilities include back-up duties (transporting youths, administering medications, intake/discharges) and conducting inspections, room checks, and drills.

Qualifications

• Must obtain First Aid/CPR within 90 days of hire.
• Must pass an extensive background investigation.
• Must possess a valid Texas drivers license.
• Must pass mandatory drug testing and be subject to random testing during employment.
• Must be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

• Supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility to ensure health, safety and welfare.
• Provide individual and group counseling to youths to promote responsibility and alternatives.
• Discipline youths, document behavior, and forward information to appropriate personnel.
• Back-up staff duties: transport youths, administer medications, intake assessments or discharges as needed.
• Conduct inspections, rounds and drills; perform room checks and searches; coordinate activities.
