Job summary

Edgewater Federal Solutions seeks an Applications Developer I for on-site work with a federal client across multiple locations, including Folsom, CA. The role targets early-career developers and focuses on building, maintaining, and modernizing enterprise Java-based applications while learning under senior staff.

The position covers design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, with participation in Agile ceremonies and cloud modernization efforts in AWS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 0-2 years of experience in software or application development, including internships, academic projects, or entry-level professional experience.
• Basic knowledge of Java development and SQL.
• Familiarity with SpringBoot and web application development concepts.
• Exposure to front-end frameworks such as Kendo UI, Angular, React, or similar technologies.
• Basic understanding of relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle concepts, testing, and debugging techniques.
• Familiarity with Agile development methods is preferred.
• Exposure to secure coding principles and application security concepts is preferred.
• Awareness of cloud platforms such as AWS is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, work collaboratively, and adapt in a team-based technical environment.
• Willingness to participate in on-call support rotation and respond to operational issues as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise applications within a Java/SQL/SpringBoot front-end web environment.
• Support development of RESTful services and user interfaces that integrate with enterprise applications and databases.
• Perform routine database tasks in Oracle and PostgreSQL, such as updating data structures, reviewing queries, and assisting with performance improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic application, interface, and database issues with support from senior developers and technical leads.
• Follow secure coding practices and assist with correcting vulnerabilities identified through testing or security reviews.
• Support implementation and maintenance of authentication and authorization mechanisms in accordance with established security requirements.
• Work with team members, customers, and stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Participate in Agile development activities such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Assist with application modernization and cloud migration activities, including code updates, testing, and documentation for AWS environments.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including code comments, development notes, and standard operating procedures.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement efforts to improve application quality and team performance.
• Support production and operational activities, including participation in on-call support rotation as assigned.
