City of Wheeling is seeking an IT Specialist to support daily operation, maintenance, and security of the City’s technology systems. This entry‑level role emphasizes strong technical aptitude, a service‑oriented mindset, and growth in IT.

You will provide end-user support, troubleshoot hardware and software, maintain workstations and mobile devices, and assist with network and system security across City locations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft/Apple certifications.
• Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and basic network administration; prior help desk experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to users by troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
• Install, configure, maintain, and support desktop and mobile hardware and peripherals at City locations.
• Manage and maintain user accounts, email systems, and access permissions.
• Conduct routine system checks and maintenance to ensure reliable performance.
• Implement and maintain security measures including monitoring certificates and compliance with security standards.
• Document procedures, issues, resolutions, and system configurations.
