Job summary

Responsibilities include cutting, welding, and assembling steel components while following supervisor instructions. Must be able to work outdoors, lift heavy items, and operate in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; field experience in a related area preferred.
• Must understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate with supervision.
• Knowledge of safe and efficient use of hand and power tools and layout tools.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine materials needed, locations, quantities or sizes.
• Assist skilled craftsmen to fabricate metal parts per blueprints or instructions.
• Assist with unloading and positioning prefabricated steel units for hoisting; assist crane operators to lift and position members.
• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs or laser equipment.
• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using shears, torches, or welding equipment.
• Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy equipment or materials.
