Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an entry-level Grossing Technician I to work Monday to Friday, 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the Histology department. The role involves gross examinations of surgical specimens and collaboration with pathologists and staff to ensure accurate processing.

The position offers health benefits from day one for eligible hours, competitive hourly pay around $24.52+, and opportunities for annual incentive-based compensation.

Qualifications

• 1 year of histology/grossing experience.
• Associates or better in a relevant field preferred.
• Current state licensure, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
• Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
• Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
• Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
• Capable of grossing low to moderately complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision.
• Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants or Pathologists.
• Record measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicable.
• Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• May be trained to perform basic Histology functions if qualified.
• Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, etc.
