Job summary

Bay West is seeking an entry-level Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our environmental consulting team at Fairchild Air Force Base, WA. The role emphasizes outdoor fieldwork, sampling, and site exploration with periodic travel.

You will gain hands-on experience while supporting investigation, monitoring, and remediation projects. Candidates should enjoy outdoor work, be willing to travel up to 55% of the time, and reside near Spokane, WA.

Qualifications

• BS in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field.
• 0–3 years in geology, geologist, or field technician role.
• Current 40-hour HAZWOPER or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Authorized to work in the United States with documentation.
• Ability to read maps, diagrams and instruction manuals.
• Proficient with Word and Excel applications.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to Spokane, WA area.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field work, including out-of-town travel up to three weeks several times a year.
• Read SOPs and receive training for field tasks.
• Conduct environmental sampling (air, water, soil, sediment) per plan.
• Assist installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, and treatment systems.
• Log soil cores and prepare boring logs under supervisor.
• Oversee excavation of contaminated soil under supervision.
• Organize and file field notes in Document Locator database.
• Maintain field equipment per Bay West SOPs.
• Travel 35–55% of the time.
• Support Restoration Advisory Board notes and setup.
• Maintain landfill cap through inspections and weed control.
• Enter field and laboratory data and summarize methods/results.
