Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems in Pittsfield, MA is seeking an entry-level Electrical Hardware Engineer specializing in FPGA, networking, and cyber infrastructure. You will support the hardware lifecycle from requirements to verification, working with multidisciplinary teams on secure, high-performance subsystems for mission-critical defense systems.

Responsibilities include HDL design, timing analysis, lab bring-up, PCB reviews, and network interface work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus relevant experience.
• Experience or coursework in FPGA or HDL development, digital hardware, PCB design, networking hardware or hardware cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Apply electrical engineering principles to support FPGA- and networking-focused hardware development, testing, and integration.
• Participate in requirements analysis, definition, management, and verification activities.
• Support FPGA development activities, including HDL design, simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, verification, and lab bring-up.
• Assist with schematic analysis, component selection, PCB design and layout reviews, and hardware troubleshooting.
• Contribute to network hardware and physical-layer design activities, including Ethernet interfaces and high-speed digital connectivity.
• Apply networking protocol knowledge (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, ARP, switching, routing, multicast) to program requirements.
• Support network segmentation and data isolation approaches (VLANs, subnetting, interface separation).
• Apply hardware cybersecurity principles (encryption, secure boot, trusted platform architectures, root of trust, secure key handling).
• Develop and communicate technical findings, issues, and corrective actions to the engineering team.
• Collaborate with systems, software, cyber, test, manufacturing, and project leadership teams.
