Job summary

City of Reno Fire Department seeks entry-level firefighters for an anticipated early 2027 academy. This internal recruitment targets current qualified City of Reno employees for firefighting, rescue, prevention, and related duties.

The role involves responding to emergencies, operating equipment, and maintaining facilities. Nevada EMT certification or National Registry EMT, and a valid driver's license are required, along with being at least 18.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Nevada EMT certification or National Registry EMT certification.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to fires and other emergency or public assistance incidents in a timely, safe, and skilled manner as part of a team.
  • Rescue persons endangered by fires or hazards and provide first aid as assigned.
  • Conduct fire prevention tasks and educate on fire safety to reduce hazards.
  • Develop and maintain fire service knowledge through training and drills.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting equipment and apparatus safely and efficiently.
  • Keep fire stations and facilities clean and orderly.
  • Assist with record keeping and map maintenance.
  • Perform public information and relations tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain high physical fitness to perform firefighting and related tasks.
  • May perform relief work as a Fire Equipment Operator when qualified.
