Job summary

City of Provo is seeking entry-level firefighters with EMT or Paramedic certifications. Testing runs November 10–12, 2026, with several steps including written, physical, and oral interviews.

Compensation includes two bands: Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic, plus employer-paid health insurance and retirement benefits. Full-time positions with 40 hours per week, equal opportunity employer, and a variety of employee perks such as recreation center access, library card, and golf discounts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic EMT OR Paramedic license (Utah EMS and Preparedness).
• Firefighter I and II certifications required within 6 months.
• Valid Utah Driver License.
• Must be 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Fight fires by placing, connecting, and advancing hoses.
• Operate pumps, nozzles, ladders, hydrants, extinguishers, generators, and other firefighting equipment.
• Search for and rescue victims from burning buildings, vehicles, or other structures and locations.
• Assess victims and determine emergency medical treatment needed at incidents.
• Handle a wide variety of emergency situations.
• Provide medical treatment.
• Transport, lift, restrain or otherwise move patients.
• Report victim assessments and conditions to medical personnel.
• Participate in drills and training.
• Restock ambulance supplies and maintain supply inventory during shifts.
• Assist other staff and perform other related duties as required.
