Job summary

Virginia Department of Social Services is seeking an entry-level Family Services Specialist I who will be trained in areas including Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care, and Employment Services.

Under close supervision, you will perform routine-to-journey-level casework, while training and gaining necessary approvals to advance to Family Services Specialist II.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or equivalent plus related experience as mandated.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to counsel and refer clients.
• Familiarity with social work principles and ability to assess needs.

Responsibilities

• Interpret laws, policies and regulations as applied to responsibilities.
• Coordinate services within area of responsibility.
• Conduct client interviews and assess needs, abilities and support systems.
• Provide case management and monitor compliance with service plans.
• Maintain waiting lists and track program expenditures and budgets.
