Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks an entry-level Equipment Operator Jr. to perform semi-skilled maintenance and power plant operation tasks. This role offers a path to advance to an Equipment Operator–Junior, with training and progression as competency is achieved.

Work is performed on-site at the Winfield facility, with rotating shifts and safety training provided. The ideal candidate will have an associate degree or equivalent experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to read

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology or two years related work experience.
• Possess a valid State driver's license.
• Able to stand or walk continuously for up to 12 hours and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Complete online pre-employment assessment with a recommended result.
• Able to learn OSHA and Environmental guidelines and work from simple prints.

Responsibilities

• Isolate, inspect, and maintain strainers, heat exchangers and dust collectors.
• Operate and service portable tools and equipment, keep work areas clean.
• Monitor plant equipment, identify abnormal conditions and write work orders.
• Assist in boilers prep, coal feed monitoring and slag handling.
• Perform minor maintenance on valves, piping and insulation surfaces.
• Learn and follow safety rules and emergency response procedures.
