Job summary

The City of La Porte is seeking an entry-level Equipment Operator to support street maintenance and related public works tasks. The role involves driving light to moderate construction equipment, hand-sweeping and patching streets, and assisting with curb, gutter, and sidewalk repairs.

Responsibilities include operating drainage equipment, contributing to small crew projects, and performing storm drain maintenance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled construction tasks.
• Capable of operating light to moderate equipment under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate light to moderate construction equipment on routine assignments or training basis.
• Repair and patch streets by hand-sweeping, loading asphalt, and raking/shoveling.
• Work with a small crew to complete work orders.
• Operate tractors and mowers for drainage channels and rights-of-way.
• May perform curb, gutter, sidewalk repairs.
• Inspect ditches and drainage areas for weed removal and herbicide application.
• Operate trucks and equipment for larvacide and insecticide application.
• Perform storm drain maintenance and emergency storm work.
• Other duties as assigned.
