Job summary

OWN, Inc. in Springfield, MO is seeking a Drilling Technician to support geotechnical fieldwork across project sites. You will operate drilling rigs, collect soil and rock samples, and document test data under the supervision of a Drilling Supervisor.

This role requires a high school diploma, safety mindset, physical stamina, and the ability to travel. You’ll follow safety protocols, perform basic maintenance, and contribute to accurate logging and reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in drilling operations preferred.
• Experience as a Drilling Technician or similar in geotechnical/environmental drilling.
• Knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment, and drilling fluids used in geotechnical investigations.
• Understanding of soil and rock classification and sampling methods.
• Strong commitment to safety and ability to work in demanding conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate drilling equipment and drill rigs following safety protocols and procedures.
• Perform soil/rock sampling, core drilling, and installation of monitoring wells with accurate data collection.
• Set up and mobilize drilling equipment to project sites; assemble/disassemble drill rigs; prepare drilling fluids.
• Maintain drilling logs and document progress, subsurface conditions, and equipment usage.
• Assist with in-situ tests like SPT or CPT and record data for analysis.
• Conduct basic maintenance and troubleshooting of drilling equipment.
• Collaborate with geotechnical team during field investigations and site restorations.
• Adhere to environmental regulations and safety requirements.
