Job summary

City of Puyallup seeks an entry-level Corrections Officer to join the Police Department. The position offers a starting monthly salary of $6,836.06 to $7,874.74 and a $10,000 hiring bonus paid in two installments after CTO program completion and probation.

In addition to base pay, officers may earn 5.1% shift differential, education incentives (4% bachelor’s, 2% associate), longevity pay, and a 1% bilingual premium. Group health insurance is provided with wellness program incentives.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in working effectively with the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (spoken, reading and writing).
• Ability to safely restrain and transport prisoners and operate a City vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Receives prisoners from arresting officers and books prisoners into the jail facility; takes pictures, fingerprints and completes records.
• Directs in-custody court video arraignments and works with judges, clerks and interpreters.
• Coordinates medical services for prisoners; administers medications as instructed by medical staff.
• Maintains jail records; writes reports and logs; provides testimony in court as needed.
