Jefferson County, Washington seeks entry-level and lateral Corrections Officers for multiple vacancies. Positions require observing, booking, searching, and processing inmates in a detention facility, with a 12-hour schedule offering 3-4 days off weekly. 2026 Salary Range: $30.76 to $39.29 per hour

Position Information: Corrections Officers are part of the Uniformed Support Services Division and are responsible for the safety and security of the community, staff, and inmates, by way of safe and humane incarceration of pre‑trial and post‑conviction inmates. These positions work a unique 12‑hour schedule, which allows for 3-4 days off each week.
Duties include but are not limited to observing, moving, booking, searching, and processing inmates – adult and juvenile – in a detention facility in accordance with established policies, regulations, and procedures, processing large amounts of legal paperwork, transporting inmates to court hearings, medical appointments, and extradition of inmates to other agencies, as well as meal service, medication distribution, and supervision of daily activities.
Corrections Officers have direct contact with inmates and are expected to enforce facility rules and regulations. Interpersonal communication and situational awareness are required skills when interacting with inmates. In addition, Corrections Officers interact with other agencies, departments, organizations, and the public, and are expected to maintain and develop these professional relationships.
Computer and data entry skills are required, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain certain certifications, and routine firearm qualifications.
Eligibility Requirements: Must be 18 years of age, US citizen, possess a high school diploma/GED, and possess a valid Washington driver’s license with a record free of serious or frequent violations. Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, as well as read, analyze and interpret various types of reports and documents. Must successfully complete the Washington State Corrections Academy within one year of employment and must be able to pass a Personal Background Evaluation.
Eligibility List: The first step in applying for this position is to contact Public Safety Testing (publicsafetytesting.com) A written/physical test is to be completed through Public Safety Testing. Test scores are used to establish an eligibility list with positions being filled as needed. The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from Public Safety Testing with an interview conducted on an as‑needed basis.
