Job summary

Peoples Bank is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter to evaluate and approve high volumes of loan applications from branches and dealers. The role requires reviewing financials, credit histories, and collateral to arrive at prudent credit decisions while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

You will collaborate with retail staff and the collections team, train new hires, and contribute to production reporting.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent work experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in business or finance preferred.
• Consumer or residential loan underwriting experience is valued.
• Experience analyzing financial statements or tax returns is important.
• Ability to communicate loan requirements clearly to clients and colleagues.
• Familiarity with regulatory guidelines (Reg B, Reg Z, FCRA) helps.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite a high volume of consumer loan applications from branch and dealer networks.
• Evaluate financial condition, credit reports, income, and collateral to make credit decisions.
• Review tax returns and financial documents to assess repayment ability.
• Approve loans within authority and justify policy exceptions when needed.
• Provide training to staff on lending guidelines and processes.
• Collaborate with collections on workout and extension requests.
• Prepare production reports and conduct market research as needed.
• Support title lien processing and compliance-related tasks.
