Job summary

Element Materials Technology in Duarte, CA is seeking a Machinist I to perform a variety of composite machining tasks under supervision. You will cut material kits, fabricate panels, and prepare specimens for testing, using tablesaws, CNC mills and grinders. A strong safety mindset and accurate measurement are essential.

Responsibilities include operating autoclaves, bonding prep, and training junior machinists while ensuring quality and timely test results in a fast-growing environment.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED preferred; College or vocational school coursework welcomed.
• Associate degree in related testing or science field and/or 3–6 years of machining shop experience
• Experience in layup, bonding, and machining of composites (2–5 years)
• Depth of understanding of machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts
• Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol

Responsibilities

• Work with composite pre-pregs to cut material kits and prepare for testing
• Perform composite panel fabrication and vacuum bagging
• Mix adhesives for bonding or casting operations
• Operate autoclave for curing of composite
• Use cutting equipment to prepare specimens according to customer specifications
• Design, set up and perform machining tasks per customer requirements
• Mentor and train machinists with less experience
• Maintain equipment and schedule preventative maintenance
• Record dimensions for quality assurance
• Work with carbon fiber, Kevlar, fiberglass, resins
