Job summary

SouthState Bank in Columbia, SC is seeking an entry-level Loan Assistant I to support the commercial lending team with borrower documentation, data entry, and the preparation of loan files for closings and funding.

You will serve as a point of contact throughout the loan life cycle, helping manage simple commercial loans and client relationships while learning regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; banking coursework is a plus.
• Minimum 1 year of commercial lending documentation experience preferred.
• Experience in client service within a financial institution is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Track loan pipeline, maturities, uninsured reports and past due reports, ensuring timely processing.
• Collect and organize borrower documentation (income verification, credit reports, identification).
• Input data into loan processing systems accurately.
• Coordinate closings with lenders, attorneys, and clients.
• Review closed loans for document completion and proper booking.
