Job summary

City of Phenix City is seeking a qualified engineer to supervise the engineering division within the Utilities – Administration department. The role focuses on operations across water distribution, water treatment, and wastewater systems, including design, project management, and coordination with regulatory agencies.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform technical studies, prepare plans, review permits, and provide guidance to the City Manager and Council on utilities projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
• Two years experience in water distribution and treatment, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment.
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to water systems and public utility operations.
• Ability to use CAD, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

Responsibilities

• Provides supervision of engineering division personnel and utilities department staff.
• Attends meetings and training seminars as required.
• Provide technical support to City Manager, Utilities Director, Planning Commission, and City Council.
• Perform preliminary engineering studies and design on water distribution, water treatment, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment projects.
• Prepare plans and specifications; review bids for accuracy and compliance with specs.
• Coordinate with agencies and contractors, monitor project progress and maintain records.
