Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services seeks a County Caseworker 1 to protect children by assessing reports of abuse or neglect, supporting families, and connecting them with essential services. This full-time role involves investigations, family support, and placement oversight while coordinating with teams to achieve safety goals.

You will work 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no telework option.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college coursework (12 credits) in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
• A bachelor’s degree including 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 credits in social sciences and relevant paraprofessional case management experience

Responsibilities

• Case Investigation: Look into reports of child abuse or neglect to understand safety concerns
• Family Support: Offer services that help families prevent placement and strengthen stability
• Record Maintenance: Keep accurate agency records and prepare materials for court when needed
• Child Placement: Arrange placements and oversee children who are living outside their home
• Team Participation: Join conferencing and teaming meetings to help families set and reach goals
