Job summary

Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services is seeking a County Caseworker 1 to help protect children and support families. You’ll learn valuable skills in social services while contributing to safer home environments and stronger family connections.

The role focuses on responding to concerns of abuse or neglect, planning goals with families, maintaining safety, and coordinating placements, investigations, and supportive services.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college coursework including 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or related social sciences; or
• A bachelor's degree with 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice or related social sciences; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 college credits in related social sciences and one year of paraprofessional case management experience.

Responsibilities

• Case Investigation: examine reports of child abuse or neglect to assess safety concerns
• Family Support: provide services to prevent placement and strengthen stability
• Record Maintenance: keep accurate agency records and prepare materials for court when needed
• Child Placement: arrange placements and monitor children living outside their home
• Team Participation: participate in conferences and teaming meetings to help families set and reach goals
