Job summary

Suffolk County Government is seeking a Child Support Specialist Trainee for the HELP Program in New York. The role involves on-the-job training while performing investigations to locate individuals and secure support payments through voluntary agreements or court orders.

You will work with higher-level specialists and support enforcement actions as needed. Starting salary is $41,421 with benefits including health insurance, pension, vacation, sick leave, personal days, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Completion of sixty (60) credits from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State.
• Bondable.
• Within one (1) year of appointment, obtain NYS Notary Public License and maintain it during employment.
• Possess a valid NY State motor vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

• Attend on-the-job and formal training sessions.
• Assist in obtaining debtor residence, family records, and financial information from various sources.
• Review delinquent accounts and locate individuals via calls and inquiries to friends, relatives, informers, neighbors, and agencies.
• Interview unwed mothers to assess feasibility of pursuing court action to establish paternity.
• Refer for appropriate legal action to establish accounts and collect noncollectible amounts.
• Compile and furnish information for related agencies and court actions.
• Monitor child support payments under court orders or voluntary agreements.
• Maintain continuous files and prepare required reports.
