Auto-Owners Insurance in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team. This entry-level role will handle the life-cycle of a claim under close supervision, including investigation, evaluation, and resolution.

You will study policies, forms, and procedures to build foundational knowledge, develop claim negotiation skills, and learn to communicate with claimants, attorneys, and agents. The position offers training and opportunities for growth in property/casualty claims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in property/casualty claims handling or equivalent experience.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task, and make independent decisions.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and data security.
• Effective interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to handle mathematical problems accurately, including geometry and financial calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record consistent with guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims.
• Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of Company products.
• Learn and comply with Company claim-handling procedures.
• Develop entry-level claim negotiation and settlement skills.
• Build skills to effectively serve the needs of agents, insureds, and others.
• Meet and communicate with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties.
• Develop specialized skills, including estimating and use of designated computer-based programs for loss adjustment.
• Obtain, and maintain an adjuster’s license if required within timeline.
• Continuously develop product knowledge through approved educational programs.
