Job summary

The Cook County State’s Attorney Office is seeking entry-level Assistant State’s Attorneys to join the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau, Special Victims Bureau, and Juvenile Justice Bureau in Chicago and suburban courts.

Candidates must have a J.D. and be admitted or scheduled for admission to the Illinois bar by November 2026; strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills are required. All entry-level roles require in-person attendance.

Qualifications

• Must possess a law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Be a member in good standing with the Illinois bar or scheduled for admission by November 2026.
• Excellent legal research and legal writing abilities.
• Articulate sound legal arguments orally and in writing.
• Solid work ethic with attention to detail and accountability.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team, including courtroom personnel.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute matters under the Illinois Criminal Code.
• Manage misdemeanor, traffic, and juvenile delinquency caseloads; review evidence for felony charges; hearings.
• Work with multiple law enforcement agencies and represent the People in hearings and trials.
• Interact with diverse communities; maintain time management; be self-initiating.
• Communicate the CCSAO mission and values to the community.
• Litigate motions, petitions, bench and jury trials and related functions.
