Job summary
The Cook County State’s Attorney Office is seeking entry-level Assistant State’s Attorneys to join the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau, Special Victims Bureau, and Juvenile Justice Bureau across Chicago and suburban courts. You will prosecute misdemeanors, traffic and juvenile delinquency cases and may handle felonies as assigned.
Candidates must have a JD, be in good standing or scheduled for Illinois bar admission in November 2026, and show strong legal research and writing skills.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Illinois bar admission or scheduled for Nov 2026.
- Strong legal research and writing abilities.
- Ability to articulate sound legal arguments orally and in writing.
- All entry level positions require in-person attendance.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute matters under the Illinois Criminal Code.
- Manage misdemeanor, traffic, and juvenile delinquency caseloads; review evidence for felony charges; hearings.
- Represent the People in hearings and trials with multiple law enforcement agencies.
- Communicate the CCSAO mission and values to the community.
- Litigate motions, petitions, bench and jury trials and related proceedings.
