Job summary

The Charleston School of Law is seeking a Reference & Instruction Librarian for an entry-level position ideal for recent graduates or final-semester students pursuing a career as an academic law librarian with a strong instructional component.

The Reference & Instruction Librarian will provide in-library reference, develop research guides and tutorials, lead instructional sessions in law school courses, and support collection development as part of a collaborative, service-oriented team.

Qualifications

• Master's in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Final-semester students may be considered if they can work in person.
• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited institution.
• Strong legal research skills with experience in electronic and print resources.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and research technologies.
• Commitment to service and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Deliver reference and research assistance to faculty, students, alumni, and the legal community.
• Create instructional materials and lead formal and informal research instruction sessions.
• Collaborate on interdepartmental instructional initiatives and faculty support.
• Participate in collection development and prepare legal research guides and bibliographies.
• Represent the law school at professional meetings and conferences.
• Assist with exam proctoring and occasional evening hours.
• Opportunity to teach as an adjunct professor (additional compensation provided).
