Job summary

Actalent in Jacksonville, FL is seeking an Entry-Level Electrical Engineer to support the design, testing, and startup of industrial electrical and control systems. You will develop drawings, assist PLC-based control projects, and gain hands-on experience on the shop floor with experienced engineers.

You will work on instrumentation, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and to spec.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 0–2 years of experience in electrical engineering or related internships/co-ops.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Exposure to PLC programming through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Strong problem‑solving and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work on manufacturing floor and on-site tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and development of electrical control systems and instrumentation packages for industrial applications.
  • Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of material.
  • Support PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system testing activities.
  • Assist with instrument selection, panel integration, and control system commissioning.
  • Perform electrical calculations and contribute to equipment specification activities.
  • Support factory testing and startup activities, including functional testing of control panels.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues during manufacturing, testing, and startup.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure communication and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Contribute to technical drawings, specifications, test procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Title: Entry-Level Electrical Engineer
Job Description

This entry-level electrical engineering role supports the design, testing, and implementation of industrial electrical and control systems. You will work closely with experienced engineers to develop electrical drawings, contribute to PLC-based control systems, and assist with instrumentation and control projects from initial design through startup. This position is ideal for a recent electrical engineering graduate who wants to build a career in electrical engineering, controls, and industrial automation.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design and development of electrical control systems and instrumentation packages for industrial applications.
  • Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of material to support project execution.
  • Support PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system testing activities under the guidance of other engineers.
  • Assist with instrument selection, panel integration, and control system commissioning for new and existing systems.
  • Perform electrical calculations and contribute to equipment specification activities to ensure proper system performance.
  • Support factory testing and startup activities, including functional testing of control panels and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related issues that arise during manufacturing, testing, and startup.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure effective communication and successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and ensure compliance with applicable electrical standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, test procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in root cause analysis efforts to identify and resolve electrical and control system issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in industrial control systems, automation, and electrical design processes.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 02 years of experience in electrical engineering or related roles; internships and co-op experience are welcome.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, industrial controls, and instrumentation.
  • Exposure to PLC programming through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in electrical and control systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support project goals.
  • Foundational knowledge of instrumentation and controls (E&I).
  • Interest in PLC programming and troubleshooting for industrial control systems.
  • Ability to assist with control panel design and industrial control system layout.
  • Attention to detail when creating and maintaining technical documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Allen‑Bradley or Siemens PLCs.
  • Exposure to industrial instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow devices.
  • Familiarity with relay logic, control panels, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
  • Internship or project experience involving industrial controls or electrical systems.
  • Experience with electrical design, including schematic development and control system layout.
  • Expereince in automation and industrial control systems design.
  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation and engineering reports.
  • Experience with root cause analysis for electrical or control system issues.
  • Understanding of E&I controls design and electrical design engineering principles.
Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment with approximately 50 employees, offering a dynamic and fast‑paced setting with a strong startup feel. The shop floor is active and can be dirty, with a lot of equipment and processes operating simultaneously, so you will regularly be present on the floor and not just working behind a desk. You will work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, engaging directly with industrial control systems, panels, and instrumentation. This environment provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world automation and electrical systems, with opportunities to participate in testing, troubleshooting, and startup activities.

This is a Permanent position based out of Jacksonville, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
