Job summary

Actalent in Ohio seeks an Electrical Engineer to design and implement electrical control systems for automated material handling equipment. You will create specifications, device layouts, schematics, and panel drawings while collaborating with clients and internal teams to deliver reliable automation solutions.

The role supports remote work depending on experience, with travel to client sites; involves on-site checkout and commissioning, and updating drawings to as-built status.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the material handling industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical design work.
  • Strong knowledge of 480 VAC 3-phase power systems.
  • Ability to calculate system electrical loads and design control panels accordingly.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and their role in automated control systems.
  • Ability to design I/O architectures that effectively accommodate system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of UL508A, NFPA 70, and NFPA 79 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients and internal project teams to define application requirements and produce functional specifications or descriptions of operation documents.
  • Use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical designs, including device layouts, schematics, control panel designs, and communication architecture diagrams.
  • Select components and prepare detailed bills of material for each project.
  • Coordinate the ordering of field components and control panels to support project timelines.
  • Design electrical interfaces to devices such as network I/O, variable speed drives, camera and laser scanner identification systems, and scales.
  • Customize standard products and solutions to meet the specific requirements of each project.
  • Work closely with Controls Engineers to integrate electrical designs into complete project solutions.
  • Perform on-site technical checkout, often collaborating with installation teams to verify proper system operation.
  • Conduct on-site system commissioning at client locations to validate and fine-tune the controls design.
  • Update all electrical drawings and documentation to 'as-built' status upon project completion.

Work Environment

Travel requirements typically range from approximately 20% to 40%, primarily for on-site technical checkout and system commissioning. You will work with modern automated material handling equipment, electrical control panels, and industrial control technologies, using tools such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical in a project-driven environment within a growing, expanding material handling integrator.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of West Chester, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
