Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Electrical Controls Design Engineer in Plano, TX to support the design, development, and implementation of industrial control systems and power distribution solutions for manufacturing clients. You will produce electrical drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and documentation while ensuring NEC/IEEE compliance and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

The role focuses on MCCs, switchgear, control panels, and medium/high voltage distribution in fast-paced projects,

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical design.
  • Experience designing MCCs, switchgear, control panels, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and site drawings.
  • Knowledge of NEC and IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical and control system drawings including diagrams, panels, and layouts.
  • Design and modify PLC control panels and motor control systems.
  • Generate documentation from customer specifications and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients throughout projects.
  • Review electrical specs, drawings and technical documents.
  • Support field installation, FATs, and customer inspections as needed.
  • Perform electrical sizing calculations including conduit fill and cable sizing.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC/IEEE and industry best practices.
  • Assist with project estimates and technical proposals.

Electrical Controls Design Engineer
Job Description

We are seeking an Electrical Controls Design Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of industrial control systems and power distribution solutions for a variety of industrial and manufacturing clients. This position will work closely with project managers, engineers, field personnel, and customers to develop electrical drawings, control panel designs, wiring diagrams, and power distribution documentation while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have experience designing industrial electrical systems, MCCs, switchgear, control panels, and associated documentation within fast-paced project environments.

Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical and control system drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, electrical enclosure drawings, and equipment interconnection drawings.
  • Design and modify PLC control panels, motor control systems, and industrial power distribution packages.
  • Generate electrical design documentation from customer specifications and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, integrators, vendors, and clients throughout project execution.
  • Review electrical specifications, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Support field installation, commissioning, startup, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and customer inspections when required.
  • Perform electrical equipment sizing calculations including conduit fill, wireway fill, voltage drop, cable sizing, and overcurrent protection sizing.
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, IEEE, customer standards, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with project estimates and technical proposals.
Essential Skills
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical design.
  • Experience designing Motor Control Centers (MCCs), switchgear systems, control panels, and industrial power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and site electrical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and IEEE standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems.
  • Exposure to SCADA, Remote I/O, DCS, or industrial automation projects.
  • Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience working on turnkey industrial projects.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Plano, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
