Job summary

GAINSCO is seeking a Data Governance Manager to establish and operate the enterprise data governance program across underwriting, claims, operations, finance, marketing, and other areas. You will lead governance operations, develop data standards, strengthen stewardship practices, and support master data management initiatives while enabling responsible use of data and AI.

The role reports to the Data and Analytics team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in quantitative, business, information management, or related field.
• Certified Data Management Professional preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or a related discipline.
• Experience establishing, implementing, or operating an enterprise data governance program.
• Professional experience within the insurance or financial services industry is required.
• Experience developing data definitions, data quality standards, stewardship practices, or governance policies.
• Experience facilitating cross-functional governance discussions and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
• Experience supporting master data management initiatives, including stewardship workflows, data quality metrics, and match, merge, or survivorship rules.
• Experience with governance and metadata tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or Alation.
• Experience with master data management platforms such as Informatica, Profisee, or Reltio.
• Familiarity with responsible AI, data readiness, and governance considerations for analytics and AI initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the enterprise data governance program, including council meetings, request intake, prioritization, policies, and performance reporting.
• Build and maintain the business glossary, data definitions, critical data element inventory, and data quality standards.
• Establish a network of data stewards and coordinate the investigation and resolution of data quality issues across business and technology teams.
• Serve as the business lead for master data management initiatives, including domain prioritization, match and merge rules, stewardship workflows, and quality metrics.
• Partner with IT, Security, Legal, and Compliance to strengthen data classification, access, retention, privacy, audit readiness, and responsible AI practices.
• Develop training, communications, metadata, and data catalog documentation that improve data literacy, adoption, and appropriate use of enterprise data.
