Job summary

Arc After School & Experiential Education seeks an Enrichment Instructor for Sports/P.E. to lead engaging, age-appropriate activities and foster a positive learning environment. You will motivate students, adapt methods, and deliver foundational sports instruction across basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more.

The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and collaboration with coordinators, with scheduling aligned to after-school hours and site needs. CPR preferred, Live Scan may be required.

Qualifications

• Official/unofficial college transcripts confirming 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam.
• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students.
• Ability to assess and address student challenges.
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs.
• Schedule flexibility/availability for after school instruction hours.
• Experience working with youth in diverse communities.
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review curriculum and create lesson plans.
• Facilitate classroom-based lessons and activities for ages from elementary through high school.
• Maintain student engagement and redirect unwanted behaviors.
• Maintain course equipment and ensure cleanliness and functionality.
• Communicate with Coordinators about course matters and needs.
• Plan and deliver classes covering basics of sports (basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football) and mobility.
• Provide opportunities for students to practice techniques and mechanics.
• Develop student skills to demonstrate mastery and create a fun learning environment.
• Provide structured warm-up and cool-down activities.
• Adapt teaching methods to different abilities and experience levels.
• Prepare demonstrations to showcase skills.
• Stay current with trends relevant to student interests.
• Encourage collaboration and respect among students.
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom and attendance records.

The Enrichment Instructor will have a strong background in physical education and exercise science. They must possess the ability to motivate students, and have a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, safe, and energetic learning environment.

The Enrichment Instructor for Sports/P.E. will lead engaging and age-appropriate sports and physical activity instruction for students of varying skill levels in popular sports, alternative games and mobility. The Enrichment Instructor will have a strong background in physical education and exercise science. They must possess the ability to motivate students, and have a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, safe, and energetic learning environment.

Essential Functions

• Review curriculum and create lesson plans
• Facilitate classroom-based lessons and activities applicable to elementary through high school age range
• Maintain student engagement in course material and redirect unwanted behaviors
• Maintain course equipment and see to cleanliness functionality
• Communicate regularly with Coordinators regarding course matters including material needs, site specifics and curriculum efficacy
• Plan and deliver classes in the basics of sports that include but are not limited to: basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football; fundamentals of flexibility, mobility and exercise;
• Create opportunities to for students to practice techniques and mechanics related to any given physical activity, while providing knowledge supporting it
• Develop student skills that demonstrate mastery and creates a fun and positive learning environment
• Provide structured warm-up and cool-down activities
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and experience levels
• Prepare demonstrations that prepare students to showcase their skills
• Stay current with trends that are relevant and interesting for a range of student interests
• Encourage collaboration and respect among students
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment
• Maintain attendance records and participate in staff meetings or training sessions as needed

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

• Official / unofficial college transcripts that confirms 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam
• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students
• Ability to assess and address student challenges
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs
• Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycle
• Experience working with youth in diverse communities
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred

Additional Requirements

• Negative TB test result and COVID-19 vaccination record
• Completion of Live Scan background check
• Availability to work before/after school hours and some weekends
• Ability to travel to assigned school sites and to the Arc office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
