Job summary

Arc After School & Experiential Education is seeking an Enrichment Instructor for Visual Arts (Nails) to lead engaging cosmetology-focused classes for students from elementary to high school. You will plan lessons, demonstrate nail art, braiding, and makeup techniques, and foster creativity in a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Official/unofficial college transcripts that confirm 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam.
• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students.
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs.
• Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycle.
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review curriculum and create lesson plans
• Facilitate classroom-based lessons and activities applicable to the elementary through high school age range
• Maintain student engagement in course material and redirect unwanted behaviors
• Maintain course kits, instruments, and equipment and see to cleanliness and functionality
• Communicate regularly with Coordinators regarding course matters, including material needs, site specifics, and curriculum efficacy
• Provide structured warm-up and cool-down activities
• Plan and deliver lessons that encourage and foster creative expression using hair, nails, and make-up
• Provide instruction on various braiding styles, techniques, and related skills like scalp care and sanitation; the art and science of nail care, including manicures, pedicures, nail enhancements, and nail art; and makeup application, and skin and body care
• Prepare engaging, hands-on projects that allow students to build hard skills in the craft and business of cosmetology and allow students to showcase their work
• Develop student skills that demonstrate understanding and create a fun and positive learning environment
• Assess student progress, provide feedback, and support students in their application of artistic techniques
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and experience levels
• Stay current with trends that are relevant and interesting for a range of student interests
• Encourage collaboration among students
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment
• Maintain attendance records and participate in staff meetings or training sessions as needed

The Enrichment Instructor for Visual Arts (Nails) will lead engaging, age-appropriate classes that introduce students to various areas of cosmetology, including nail art, hair braiding, and makeup application. The ideal candidate will have a strong instructional background in these disciplines and a passion for teaching. They must be able to motivate and inspire students while fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students
• Ability to assess and address student challenges
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs
• Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycle
• Experience working with youth in diverse communities
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred

Additional Requirements

• Negative TB test result and COVID-19 vaccination record
• Completion of Live Scan background check
• Availability to work before/after school hours and some
• Ability to travel to assigned school sites and to the Arc office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
