Job description

Job Description:

The Enhanced Scheduler is responsible for registering and scheduling patients at Intermountain Healthcare facilities system-wide, ensuring that processes and procedures exceed customer expectations. This role enhances the patient experience with a single telephone call to schedule and register for services. The scheduler reviews insurance benefit information, estimated costs, and payment options with patients, and obtains or reviews all necessary demographic, clinical, procedural, and prep information with patients or their representatives. Additionally, the role serves as a liaison between physician offices and facility departments across multiple service lines within the enterprise.

Enhanced Schedulers may be based in a central call center, coordinating and scheduling patients across multiple facilities and departments, collaborating closely with various locations.

  1. Verify the accuracy of EMPI links and report possible compromised records or identity theft.
  2. Interact with customers to gather and verify registration and scheduling information.
  3. Input patient demographic, insurance, and scheduling data into the appropriate database for billing, reporting, and analysis.
  4. Explain legal documents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Discuss financial aspects with patients, including benefits, costs, obligations, and assistance needs.
  6. Explain billing processes and maintain relevant statistics.
  7. Coordinate with physicians and staff to obtain orders and diagnoses.
  8. Provide pre-examination instructions and wayfinding information to patients.
  9. Schedule appointments across multiple locations.
  10. Document patient interactions thoroughly for follow-up.
  11. Complete all required training and updates.
  12. Greet patients professionally, demonstrating empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
  13. Maintain productivity, quality, and department standards.
  14. Handle difficult situations tactfully, applying Healing Commitment principles for service recovery.
  15. Potentially lead, mentor, and train new employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution, or two years of relevant experience in medical admitting, billing, collection, scheduling, or insurance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and calendar software.
  • Typing proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively in time-sensitive situations.
  • Independent and critical decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional associate's degree (verified).
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with CPT/ICD coding.
  • Experience with patient access or health insurance industry, including billing and third-party contracts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Communication with others.
  • Operate computers and office equipment.
  • Read monitors and documents.
  • Remain seated or standing for extended periods.

Location: Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah

Work Schedule: 40 hours/week, hourly rate $19.27 - $29.33, dependent on experience.
