Qualifications

Job Description:

The Enhanced Scheduler is responsible for registering and scheduling patients at Intermountain Healthcare facilities system-wide, ensuring that processes and procedures exceed customer expectations. This position enhances the patient experience with a single telephone call to schedule and register for services. The Enhanced Scheduler reviews insurance benefit information, estimated costs, and payment options with the patient. They also obtain or review all necessary demographic, clinical, procedural, and prep information with the patient or their representative. Additionally, this role serves as a liaison between the physician's office and facility departments across multiple service lines within the enterprise, improving the Provider experience by offering a single point of contact for referring offices.

The Enhanced Scheduler may be based in a central call center, coordinating and scheduling patients for multiple facilities and departments, working closely with various locations.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Verifying the accuracy of EMPI links and reporting possible compromised records or identity theft.
  2. Interacting with customers to gather and verify registration and scheduling information.
  3. Entering patient demographic, insurance, and scheduling data accurately into the appropriate database for billing, reporting, and analysis.
  4. Explaining legal documents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Discussing financial aspects with patients, including insurance benefits, cost estimates, and financial assistance needs.
  6. Providing billing process information and maintaining relevant statistics.
  7. Coordinating with physicians, staff, and departments to obtain necessary orders and diagnoses.
  8. Providing patients with examination content and pre-examination instructions, including preps and timetables.
  9. Scheduling appointments across multiple locations within the system.
  10. Documenting discussions with patients thoroughly for follow-up and record-keeping.
  11. Completing all required training and updates related to procedures, operations, and compliance.
  12. Greeting patients and clients professionally, demonstrating empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
  13. Maintaining productivity, quality, and department standards.
  14. Handling difficult situations tactfully, applying Healing Commitment principles for service recovery.
  15. Potentially leading, mentoring, and training new employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution, or two years of experience in medical admitting, billing, collection, scheduling, or insurance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and calendaring.
  • Typing proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively in time-sensitive situations.
  • Independent and critical decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional Associate's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with CPT/ICD codes.
  • Two years of experience in patient access or health insurance industry, including health claims billing or third-party contracts.

  • Sustained sitting or standing for work.

Location: Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

The hourly rate ranges from $19.27 to $29.33, depending on experience.
