Job summary

Brooke County Schools seeks a Mentor English teacher for Brooke High School to guide a new educator through the initial year. The position is a contract/hourly extracurricular assignment within Professional Personnel.

The mentor will observe weekly, provide constructive feedback, attend staff development, and collaborate with administrators to support instructional improvement for the new teacher.

Qualifications

• Certification/licensure as required by the WV Department of Education.
• Minimum five years teaching experience.
• Excellent performance evaluations and attendance.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Interest in mentoring new teachers.

Responsibilities

• Pre-conference, observe, and post-conference with assigned new teacher weekly first semester and biweekly second semester.
• Assist new teachers in a supervisory, not evaluative role.
• Attend staff development sessions and complete mentor duties.
• Inform Principal/Assistant Superintendent of interventions with the assigned new teacher.
• Maintain professional confidentiality.
• Learn, practice, and teach instructional strategies to the assigned new teacher.
• Provide monthly written documentation of interventions to Assistant Superintendent.
• Maintain pertinent records related to the Mentor Teacher Program.
