Job summary

  • Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom, including teaching dual‑enrollment high school students.
  • Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration.
  • Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom and demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Fully participate in the assessment of student learning and learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.
  • Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in the field, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention.
  • Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population.
  • Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns.
  • Commit to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession.
  • Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field, and developments related to teaching and student success.

Job description

Position Summary

The English Department at Community College of Philadelphia employs faculty to teach developmental reading and writing, English as a second language, college writing, literature, communication studies, mass media, theater, and creative writing. Candidates will contribute to the future of the Department and the life of the College, demonstrating engagement in teaching and a commitment to student success.

Pay Level

$1,971 per credit hour.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric, or Composition. Related degrees such as Fine Arts, English Education, and Reading/Literacy may be considered.
  • Prior teaching experience required.
  • Experience using technology or a strong willingness to engage students through technology.
  • Available to work at the Main Campus, North East, North West, and West Regional Campuses.
  • Related work experience, professional licensure, certifications, or other demonstrated competencies required for effective teaching and student learning outcomes.
  • Experience teaching at the college level, preferably in a college writing program or working with students in developmental English courses.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
