Job summary

JVS of MetroWest seeks an experienced ESL instructor to empower adult learners in New Jersey. The role emphasizes student-centered instruction aligned with College and Career Readiness standards, using diverse teaching approaches and real-world materials.

Classes run 12 hours per week per class; the instructor will integrate workplace, health, and financial literacy into lessons, monitor attendance, and prepare students for post-tests while maintaining strong communication with staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum BA degree.
• TESOL Certification preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience teaching adults.
• Experience teaching Beginning English language learners preferred.

What we are looking for Candidates should have knowledge of ESL teaching methodologies and College and Career Readiness standards. Candidates should understand that the most important part of the program is to be student-centric and relevant.

Essential Functions

• Conducts classes for 12 hours per week, per class
• Utilizes a variety of approaches to maximize the learning of a range of students
• Incorporates learning on such issues as workplace skills, health literacy, and financial literacy, into the program
• Motivate students
• Recognizes student achievement
• Assures that teaching is relevant to student needs
• Participates in established CARF Standards

Planning and Performance Measurement

• Monitors and reports attendance
• Assures that essential topics related to life and work skills constitute the major portion of class time
• Prepares students for post-tests which delineate progress
• Maintains contact with department staff to address attendance concerns
• Utilizes SmartBoard, computers and/or iPads with students on a regular basis
• Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum BA degree
• TESOL Certification (preferred)
• Minimum two years of experience teaching adults
• Experience teaching Beginning English language learners (preferred)

Salary

$35.00 /hr
