Job summary

MassBay Community College seeks qualified part time instructors for future semesters to teach Early College and early college-related courses in first-year composition in high schools within our service area, including, but not limited to Framingham, Waltham, and Milford.

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in English.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Community College experience strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
• Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to use information technology effectively.

Responsibilities

• Teach dual enrollment high school students in area high schools, including Framingham, Waltham, and/or Milford.
• Provide instruction during high school hours of operation when necessary.
• Work in collaboration with MassBay and/or high school faculty and others to prepare syllabi and develop curricula in alignment with the vision and needs of the College, high schools and early college initiatives.
• Meet regularly at the posted class times and teach assigned courses using effective instructional strategies that promote student learning and preparation.
• Use appropriate assessment methods consistently and regularly to measure student understanding in line with accreditation and College standards.
• Engage in professional development activities to learn current practices concerning education generally as well as early college initiatives.
• Utilize the appropriate learning management system for either the College or high school as needed.
• Attend meetings and submit reports or information as requested consistent with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Maintain excellent communication with students, department and division staff throughout the semester.
• Submit syllabi, midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates.
• Carry out other related duties as assigned by the College, high school, and/or early college liaisons consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and college policies, practices, and procedures.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate willjoin a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve apopulation of students with various needs and backgrounds. The candidate is expected to commit toexcellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professionaldevelopment. Adjunct faculty areexpected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environmentconductive to engaging students in the learning process. The faculty member inthis position communicates consistently and effectively with students, facultyand administrators, and responds to communications within a 24 hour period oftime. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timelygrading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback withassignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades.

Our adjunct instructors hold amaster’s degree in a related discipline and have obtained appropriatecertification and/or licensure where applicable. EarlyCollege Pathways adjunctinstructors must be committed to working with high school-aged students and toteaching college classes in high schools across the region and/or at one of theMassBay campus locations. Early College Pathways adjunct instructors willattend an Early College faculty orientation and participate in ongoingprofessional development throughout the year. Please note: Teaching schedulesmay vary by school district but are primarily daytime hours between 7:00 am to4:00 pm, with some limited availability of late afternoon/early evening orweekend assignments.
