  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in the discipline and the classroom.

Position Summary

MassBay Community College is seeking a part-time Englishfaculty member to join the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. Thisposition includes teaching a variety of in-person, first-year writing courses, including English Composition I and English Composition II.

The ideal candidate willjoin a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve apopulation of students with various needs and background and becommitted to the following college-wide goals: fostering a learner-centered environment that reflects best practices,establishing rigorous curricula and relevant programs of study to promotestudent success, and cultivating a culture of civility, collaboration,inclusion, and respect for individual differences and perspectives.

Faculty areresponsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent withthe philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, and, ifapplicable, accreditation, licensure, and specialty requirements, and for maintainingcurrent expertise in the discipline.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach in-person, first-year writing courses on Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses, as assigned;
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and program requirements and student learning outcomes for Graduation Competencies as appropriate;
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in the discipline and the classroom.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’sdegree in English or a related field;
  • A minimum oftwo years of full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent part-timeexperience, teaching writing;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to use information technologyeffectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affinity Action;
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • Community College teaching experience strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with English language learners, adult learners, and at-opportunity students;
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a curriculum that develops the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of students and to use culturally responsive and inclusive perspectives;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning;
  • Demonstrated interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Additional Information

Salary Range: $1,512 - $1,715 per credit

Faculty

Hiring is subject to state appropriation funding.

Final candidates are required to provide sealed transcripts and/or certifications.

Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI clearance.
