Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all GNSS activities related to e-Construction for Construction, Highway Design, and Right-of-Way Bureaus.
  • Coordinate with Highway Design to align project delivery processes with Construction.
  • Maintain access to CORS network for use by Bureaus.
  • Provide expert advice and on-site support for engineering automation and inspection.
  • Develop standards for engineering automation and ensure data quality for downstream use.
  • Provide training and documentation for 3D models and GNSS integration.
  • Deploy GNSS equipment and software with Construction Services support.
  • Evaluate new technologies beneficial to the Department.

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Right-of-Way, has a full-time vacancy for an Engineering Technician V Automation Specialist.

$25.40/hour - $34.14/hour

SUMMARY

Serve as the Department’s Automation Specialist and GNSS liaison between various Bureaus (Highway Design, Construction, and Right-of-Way), advancing 3D modeling and GNSS use Department-wide. Ensure consistency in the use of GNSS hardware and software systems through development and application of policies, procedures, and QA/QC processes.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in engineering, landscape architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
  • Experience: Seven years engineering experience, two years of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Technician IV. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
  • License/Certification: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and access to transportation if required for performing field work.
  • Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
  • Trainee Option: Not applicable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and experience in the fields of land surveying and construction engineering.
  • Knowledge of GNSS equipment and software applications.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Ability to conduct training programs.
  • Ability to perform job functions on active construction sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate all GNSS activities (digital inspection, 3D modeling, use of GNSS hardware and software, etc.) related to e-Construction initiatives for the Bureaus of Construction, Highway Design, and Right-of-Way. This will include coordination with contractors for the use of 3D models and GNSS equipment for automated machine guidance systems.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Bureau of Highway Design to meet program goals. Work with CAD/D Section staff to develop processes and procedures for project delivery to the Bureau of Construction.
  • Support the Geodetic Survey Section by maintaining access to the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network through yearly subscription service, for use by the Bureaus of Construction and Right-of-Way.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice and day-to-day technical support to field and office personnel in the use of engineering and construction automation. This may require routine visits to active construction sites during various phases of project completion.
  • Develop standards and specifications for the use of engineering and construction automation. Perform quality control of data outputs from systems to ensure established accuracies are being achieved and data composition is configured appropriately for downstream use Department-wide.
  • Coordinate and provide training and documentation for implementing use of 3D models and GNSS into daily construction inspections and associated work.
  • Coordinate deployment of GNSS equipment and software in conjunction with the Construction Services Section.
  • Responsible for evaluation and implementation of new and emerging technologies related to engineering and construction automation that may be beneficial to the Department.
