Goodhue County is located between the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and Rochester, MN. The topography varies from the flat plains in the southwest to rolling hills and valleys in the northeast along with the mighty Mississippi River. Goodhue County residents enjoy the splendor of nature and a wide variety of outdoor recreation.
The Goodhue County Public Works department maintains 400 miles of County Highways and Roads and inspects about 460 bridges. Our annual construction program is robust and there is a lot of exciting and varied work for our engineering staff. We have great aerial photos and tight aerial survey information to use with our survey equipment.
Goodhue County Public Works is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineering Technician or Sr. Engineering Technician.
Engineering Technicians serve Goodhue County by surveying for, designing and inspecting highway projects. Engineering Technicians work in a team and must therefore have effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and technical skills are essential in this position. Engineering Technicians perform work in the outdoor elements 50% or more of the time with seasonally demanding hours.

Engineering Technician: An Associate or technical degree in a related field OR two years technical experience in civil engineering. Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
Sr. Engineering Technician: Two-year post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering Technology or approved equal, and four years of on-the-job experience. At a minimum 7 of these 9 MN/DOT Technical Certifications are required to qualify for this position: Aggregate Production, Grading and Base 1 & 2, Bituminous Street 1, Concrete Field 1, Bituminous Plant 1, Concrete Plant 1, Bridge Safety 1, and the Construction Site Management – Erosion Control course offered by the University of Minnesota.
Knowledge of civil engineering principles, design, practices and instruments; mathematics; engineering plans, specifications and documents; highway constructions materials, practices and records; along with the ability to prepare accurate drawings from field data is highly desirable. CAD experience is preferred.
County employees receive generous compensation and benefits. The Engineering Technician is compensated at salary grade 109 ($61,193.60 - $94,868.80). The Sr. Engineering Technician is compensated at salary grade 112 ($73,860.80 - $114,524.80). Starting pay will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
