Job summary

Zero Carbon Systems in Brighton, CO is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the mechanical engineering team by assembling, modifying, and troubleshooting test rigs behind our Direct Air Capture technology. You will turn drawings into working hardware, fabricate parts, and help run tests with senior engineers.

This hands-on, on-site role requires you to move between a fabrication bench, a 3D printer, and live test rigs, while maintaining safety and clear documentation.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field with 3+ years of hands-on experience.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, PFDs, and P&IDs.
• Demonstrated safe and proficient use of hand tools and power tools.
• Experience assembling fluid systems and working with compression fittings, NPT fittings, and stainless steel tubing.
• Experience building, assembling, or maintaining pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems.
• Experience producing parts on FDM 3D printers, including slicing and print preparation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a small, fast-moving startup.
• Clear verbal and written communication with engineers and operators.

Responsibilities

• Assemble test rigs, sub-systems, and prototypes from drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, and CAD models.
• Build and modify pneumatic and hydraulic test rigs operating 10–200 psi, ensuring leak-tight circuits.
• Fabricate stainless steel tubing assemblies with compressions and fittings to leak-tight standards.
• Fabricate custom parts and fixtures using shop tools and machinery.
• Produce parts on FDM 3D printers and assemble components into larger structures.
• Troubleshoot rigs to isolate leaks, instrumentation faults, and mechanical failures; perform repairs.
• Support test campaigns by setting up instrumentation, collecting data, and recording results.
• Collaborate with engineers to identify design issues and propose practical improvements.
• Maintain shop equipment, tooling, and inventories; follow safety procedures.
• Contribute to build documentation, including as-built markups and SOPs.
