Job summary

Zero Carbon Systems is seeking a senior mechanical engineering professional to support the design, build, validation, and upgrades of DAC process equipment and the Brighton Pilot Plant. You will also assist with the demonstration plant engineering and design support.

Responsibilities include leading test rigs, CFD/FEA, prototyping, installations, and safety reviews, with collaboration across internal teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering.
• 7–10 years of direct hands-on experience in mechanical systems design and upgrading custom equipment.
• Experience with 3D CAD software; Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience designing steam, chemical process, or HVAC equipment.
• Experience with engineering design documents (P&ID, PFD, BOM, ECO).
• Experience with CFD (SimScale) and FEA analysis.
• Strong communication for technical presentations.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary projects.
• Ability to operate hand/power tools in fabrication environment.
• Willingness to travel <15%.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering teams from ideation through commissioning of new test rigs and subsystems.
• Run CFD and FEA simulations of plant subsystems and components.
• Design, develop, and analyze prototypes and revisions of equipment.
• Support installation and testing/installation of equipment and OQ.
• Lead projects with cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for design and procurement.
• Develop experiments, test rigs, execute testing programs, document results.
• Write SOPs for machine operators.
• Facilitate post-mortem analyses and implement improvements.
• Conduct design reviews and raise solutions to problems.
• Evaluate data to determine performance, reliability, and safety.
• Participate in safety reviews across phases.
• Collaborate with internal engineers, scientists, operators, vendors, and contractors.
• Oversee and review work of Junior Engineers and Designers.
