Position available with the Water Department, Pipeline Division located at 2409 E. 18th St.
Salary Range: $23.98-$36.60/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7AM-3:30PM

Responsibilities
- Utilizes GIS Maps for repairs/replacement, valves and fire hydrants needed for water main shuts.
- Accesses detailed information in GIS maps through the Layers List.
- Accesses and manages work order information through Hansen.
- Creates and assigns work orders to contracts.
- Updates information and closes work orders.
- Uses metal detectors to locate Water assets, operating valves and fire hydrants.
- Utilizes knowledge of WSD acceptable materials and types of restraint used for repairs and maintenance of water distribution system.
- Assists contractors with water main shuts.
- Coordinates shut times with our consumers.
- Notifies residential and businesses for water outages.
- Coordinates with Water Supply-SCADA for any transmission main repairs.
- Demonstrates flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations, works beyond the scheduled shift, off hours, inclement weather and is available for on-call duties as needed.
- Engages in physically demanding tasks while using critical thinking to identify solutions to problems.
- Displays initiative and drive to complete tasks efficiently and independently.
- Utilizes general knowledge of Water Distribution system, the numerous types of existing water assets in service and the appropriate repairs in accordance with KC Water Services Department S.O.I.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years of related and increasingly responsible experience in engineering drawing, mapping, automated mapping, GIS and equipment, CADD, engineering, land survey, construction inspection and related fields; OR high school graduation and 2 years of experience at the level of Engineering Technician and possession of either the Level II Engineering Technology Certification in any Civil, Electrical or Mechanical discipline as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET); the Land Surveyor in Training as issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects; OR the Class B Wastewater Collections System Certification from the Missouri Water Environmental Association; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. If moving from a non-safety-sensitive position, must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical as prescribed by the City.
Preference given to applicants with two years of underground water utility construction experience, experience in the operation of municipal water distribution systems' and/or possession of an MDNR DS II or III license.
